Entertaining, but no soul,

This review is from: Dragon Age 2 - Xbox 360 (Video Game)
This is the first game I've pre-ordered in a long time and sadly it doesn't live up to its predecesor. Indeed, the most annoying thing about Dragon Age: Origins, the inventory, was made worse in this game -- instead of a detailed image or name for the armor, weapon, or whatever Dragon Age 2 gives a very generic image with a star rating. I found it less than appealing.
Overall the game was entertaining, but it did not grab me like other Bioware titles (Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect, and Mass Effect 2). The story is obviously just the opening for future DLCs, which is okay I guess except that it should be a bit more compelling. The world is very small - nice rendering, but very repetitive. The characters/companions are forgettable. I did enjoy actually have the character talking and the incorporation of the ME2 style action wheel. On its own the game is three stars, but because of the shadow cast by previous titles, it loses another star.
I suppose the real test of games these days is if the player will buy the expansion packs/DLCs. I won't for this game - the game was okay, but it has left me with no desire to play it over or continue the story line. Because of this game I will not be preordering ME3 - I'm going to wait it out and see if Bioware went down the same path, if so I'll probably still pick it up, just from the used bin many months later. Which reminds me, I need to get rid of Dragon Age 2.
