This review is from: Six Guys From Hackensack: Coming of Age in the Real New Jersey (Kindle Edition)
George Kirsch does a fine job of pairing the stories of his gang of six and the story of Hackensack in the 50s and 60s. I grew up at the same time in Hackensack and it was a delight to walk down memory lane in this book. I never would have remembered so many of the details--e.g., the name of State Street Junior High's newspaper, "The Statement," or the precise history of our grammar school's name change. This book retrieved endless memories for me. It is difficult to see history as well live it, but Six Guys' structure captures both city history and personal history in a very enjoyable way.
