ADJUST the expansion band of this Seiko Solar Watch,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Seiko Men's SNE179 "Classic" Stainless Steel Solar Watch (Watch)
The adjustable expansion band (Seiko sizing clasp system) is quite diabolical. A few reviewers here state that it can be adjusted. So I took them at their word and set about doing it. There are no instructions in the box and none that I can find using Google search. So I will attempt an explanation here. Once you figure it out it only takes a minute and NO tools are required.
The clasp can be popped open by pulling on the side with the Seiko label. On opening, it can be seen that the band is set for maximum length; the interior of the clasp is empty. Adjustment occurs on the end opposite the clasp hinge; call this the adjustable end. Superficially it appears that the band is affixed with pins on both ends of the clasp. Not so. Bend the watch band slightly 'backwards' and have a look at the adjustable end. You can see a little metal tab which is part of the clasp and which sticks up into the expansion band and hooks onto it. The band has to be pulled away from this tap by lifting up and toward the clasp. The adjustable end will pop off the clasp. Now you can insert the band further into the clasp, bend it backwards, and hook the tab back onto the band at the desired location. Then it takes some pressing to seat the band back into the clasp (and tab) properly and tightly. Note that you can not just open the clasp and slide the adjustable end further into the clasp as some other reviewers suggest. I have only had the watch for 90 minutes. At this juncture, the band is not as comfortable as a regular Speidel expansion band (because the clasp is rigid and non-expanding). So I may get a Speidel band anyway. I hope this helps maintain your sanity. If so, just sent $3 to my pay pal account :-).

Thanks a lot. A very helpful hint for a fine no-nonsense timepiece.

Thank You this was driving me crazy! I have a women's solar with this same clasp and I too couldn't find anything about how to adjust. I guess it's great if you want it smaller, but no use to make it larger. Guess I'll just have to lose weight. :)
