I absolutely love romances, where the characters kind of worm their ways into each other's hearts, where they fall in love so quietly and gently that they never quite realize it until it's too late to defend themselves against it. I also like romances where one character helps the other heal, not because they consciously set out to do so in a Mr. Fix-it kind of way, but simply by being and reacting, and by being clueless as to the real emotions they're engendering in each other.
This is a wonderful story, full of wonderful characters, an evocative setting and quiet, but strong, emotion, a little tart, with just the right level of sweetness. It's not real fancy, but it's solid and basic, and quite, quite impossible not to love. Just like cherry pie.
