GREEN, perhaps. CHARMING nonetheless.,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bein' Green (Audio CD)
DONNA LEONHART, Jazz song stylist, wisely chose to name her CD BEIN' GREEN as she herself was a recording novice. Recorded by many artists, that song, though 40 years old, continues to live. I guess it's wise. My own favorite is BIG BIRD singing the tune in lieu of KERMIT at JIM HENSON's Memorial, but my second would be DONNA LEONHART's version at the heart of this album. "Bein' Green" is not just an allegory for race or persuasion, it is also an allegory for innocence, and a green person is inexperienced, perhaps even naive. DONNA, however, is not naive; any person who can sing this insightfully, and entertainingly, knows what she is doing. I particularly appreciate DONNA's song choices, perfect selections, with marvelous and original arrangements by DONNA's husband, MICHAEL LEONHART, including a couple of unexpected numbers from the WIZARD OF OZ. Clubby, a bit swingin', touchingly vulnerable, amusing and sweet, I discovered this DONNA LEONHART CD thru satellite radio. Being green, one may not be jaded by an often cynical world, and one therefore might take a risky chance and maybe even discover one's own true self and love that person. Take a chance. You won't be sorry.

Donna Leonhart's husband's name is Jay. Michael is the name of her son.

Well, Pearl Greenberger, thanks for knocking my positive review for apparently getting one small fact wrong.
