Ex-Bad Boy Shyne, sophomore release, Godfather Buried Alive is a bit more violent / gangster from his debut. Shyne speaks upon the problems of America's problems and how he's just a pawn in the game on "Quasi O.G.". Kanye West production on "More Or Less" featuring Foxy Brown is a good addition to the album's direction as the operatic voice in the background made the tune more intense as Foxy claims "It's like New York has been soft ever since my nigga Shyne has been sittin' in prison." One of the albums' highlight is found on "Shyne" over the Swizz Beatz production. "For The Record" could have very well have been the most gangster appealing, but due to the muffled telephone vocals made some shots at some of the industry rappers / emcees who crossed his path. On "Martyr" Shyne's first verse he spoke of his death and meeting up with the slain artists as the others he talked about the struggle. Something for the ladies in a more mainstream appeal, "Jimmy Choo" featuring Ashanti gave this LP more depth with the change of atmosphere. "...niggas wanna rhyme like / shine like me (they supposed to)..." was the theme for the album as well as on "Godfather". "The Gang" featuring Foxy Brown is more like a Brooklyn dedication that leads to the suicidal "Edge". "Here with Me" similar to "Behind The Walls (East Coast Gangsta Mix)" featuring Kurupt & Nate Dogg contains a West Coast driven groove meshing well with Shyne's lyrical efforts. As Godfather Buried Alive ends with epic proportions over one of the two Just Blaze productions on "Diamonds And Mac-10's" adds to the overall feel of this album. This album isn't as well knit as his debut, but it does contain some good material worth having from this Brooklyn representer on lock down.
