This review is from: HP Pavilion 17-e118dx 17.3-Inch Notebook (1.90 GHz AMD A-Series A8-4500M Processor, 4GB DDR3L, 750GB HDD, Windows 8) (Personal Computers)
If somebody can correct me on this, I'd love it! I have the above mentioned model, which disappeared from HP's roles, (discontinued) and now this one appears with the exact same processor and graphics card, same hard disk, ram, screen resolution...all the stats accessible to the consumer, including price point, are equal. But maybe, MAYBE, they corrected what seems to be a processor defect, for which they swapped mine out for a higher end model (also discontinued).
If this model has corrected the video display problem of the discontinued model (or maybe mine was a fluke?) then great. It is otherwise an awesome, fast, really incredible computer at its price. A FIVE STAR COMPUTER, unless it has the defect mentioned.
A simple test is to try video-chatting (Skype or any other) and watch the CPU % being used. It should be low. Likewise you can try opening up a picture folder in Windows Photo Viewer and see if it delays in opening, delays scrolling through pictures, all the while running up the CPU above the minimum it should. These are symptoms of a defect that could not be identified by HP's paid tech help, by two local computer techs where I live, nor could I find any user groups or other techies who could find the problem in any obvious place. The conclusion was not a graphics card or RAM issue, but a processor defect. Who knows, just beware! Most likely this model will not have the problem.
