3.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic except for the sound, August 17, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Datexx The Miracle Cube Timer (Health and Beauty)
This is an extremely cool little device, but with one big flaw for me: the alarm is a really shrill, jarring sound, like a smoke alarm. Other than that, I love it. I just wish they could make it with a different alarm option. I'd use it so much more often if I didn't have to hear that alarm every time!

Entirely agree. Wanted a less annoying timer and this is it .. except the sound has not improved. As least it doesn't tick.

Hey Fox, is there a button to turn off the alarm?

Mim says:
Just flip it to the 0 side.

I plan to use it in the library (perfect silence), while I write. I could probably flip it, but I'd have to be really alert to notice it's coming close to 0, right? I'd hate to wait too long and have it beep. Your answer suggests there's no way to turn it off. I was hoping something like this cube exists that simply has a visual way to signal that time is up.

The bottom (visible when it's not on 0) has a small digital clock. I check that if I'm timing something and hope it's over soon !

Yeah, this definitely isn't right for writing in the library! The only way to use it silently would be to watch that little countdown screen like a hawk so you could intervene just before it hits 0:00 - which would pretty much defeat the purpose, since you wouldn't be able to concentrate on writing.

Hope you can find something else that lets you disable the sound!

I wish I had read your review before buying. I first bought the white one, which has a softer beep, and just assumed the others in the collection sounded the same. I cannot use this cube discreetly anywhere around the home.

The sound is a deal-breaker for me. My Samsung phone, god bless it's soul, has an alarm option where the first sounds are gentle and quiet and I mean very gentle and quiet. If you don't shut the alarm off after 3 minutes (you designate how long actually) then it gets louder.
