Ms Fisk easily retains 5 stars with her second album. Her first album The Good Stuff released in 2009 is a masterpiece of song writing great playing and superior use of a backing band. The title track is a classic.
Blue Ribbon Winner was released March 2011. It contains 11 tracks vs 14 on The Good Stuff, lasts 37 minutes vs 51 mins for The Good Stuff. It is not quite as good as The Good Stuff but very close. Yes I'm going to keep comparing the two.
Windows Media Player coded the Genre for The Good Stuff as Folk as did her record company, Blue Ribbon Winner shows as Rock. Nothing wrong with trying to broaden your audience, some of these tracks sound more commercial with less strong lyrics and more lala's, dahdah's- simple songs. The title track is the first example.
A couple of these songs actually sound more country than tracks on The Good Stuff. Tell Your Heart twangs and holds some notes.
Zombie starts weird tipping a hat to She's Not There by the Zombies. Simple lyrics great song.
You Hung The Moon reminds me of something else, still a great song.
Irregular Heart bops along lightening the mood after What Good Is Love very nice simple song.
No need to list every track you either like her sound or you don't. If you liked The Good Stuff you will like this. Her voice continues to roll around the words peaking when needed sounding so smooth as she effortlessly strolls through each gem.
You cannot release the same album twice (obviously) Ms Fisk does a very good job of broadening her audience, maintaining her style tweaking her song writing skills whilst keeping her sound and original audience.
A very talented lady who also acts I hope she does not give up her singer songwriting so we can continue to enjoy her superior talent. This is a great album, less product not quite as brilliant but easily good enough to broaden her fan base and play bigger venues.
