Probably the best mechanical pencils I've ever used.,

I tend to steer clear of mechanical pencils. The leads are usually much too fragile, the erasers tiny and virtually useless, and most of them have been uncomfortable to grip over a long period of work. This is true even of pricier pencils.
But along comes Papermate with its Quick Flip and a lot of those problems have flown out the window. The leads are really sturdy, and believe me I put them through their paces. (I'm an author and artist, and I used the pencils to draw as well as scribble down notes about the story I'm working on. The lead held up to both beautifully in spite of a range of pressures and speeds.) The erasers... wow, these are damn good erasers! They erase cleanly without smearing, tearing up the paper, or leaving pink blotches. And yes, the eraser does flip over so that you get two good-sized ones with each pencil. They're not hard to flip either, so you probably won't be chasing flying erasers all over the room.
The pencil has a nice, soft grip, and while I prefer a slightly larger barrel on my pens and pencils, it's not one of those wicked slimline pencils that make your hands ache after a while. The set of four comes with two extra flipable erasers and a box of leads. The colors of the pencils are bright and attractive. There's really nothing for me to complain about, and believe me I look for things to complain about.
If you use pencils with any frequency, give the Papermate Quick Flip a try. A set of four runs a bit over $5 here, which is around $1.30 a pencil; a bit less if you factor in the extra erasers and leads. Replacement leads look to be pretty inexpensive, too. Can't be bad!
