Excellent -- the book delivers,
This review is from: Channel Catfish Fever: Handbook of Strategies (In-Fisherman Masterpiece Series) (Paperback)As usual, the In-Fisherman staff combines years of professional fishing experience with scientific research to produce a definitive guide to catching our favorite whiskered fish. While not as in depth as their guide on Largemouth Bass (which makes sense when comparing largemouth bass to catfish), this book offers you all you need to know to catch catfish like no other. A quick and easy read, it covers everything from important biological notes based on fishery research, the basics of locating catfish (it really is pretty basic),to an in-depth look at catfish baits that will make you snicker at anyone who simply says, "use chicken livers," or relies on their own "secret baits." It even has a chapter on cleaning/preparing catfish for meals which is better than anything I've been able to find on the Internet.
After reading this book I went to my local reservoir and caught so many catfish -- so many big catfish -- that I think I embarrassed the oldies who fish there everyday. So much for chicken livers.
This book is a must have for anyone who wants to catch more catfish. I almost gave it 4/5 stars because it's dated at this point, but I know of no other book that comes close when it comes to catfish in particular and really, turns out it ain't rocket science anyway, so it probably doesn't matter if there's newer books.
Criticism: the biggest flaw is that it focuses on rivers and if you fish reservoirs you sort of have to extrapolate.
