This review is from: Make: Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing (Paperback)
This guide provides a pretty complete snapshot of the low-end (meaning consumer/hobbyist grade) 3D printer world and related technologies. If you've heard the 3D buzz and are thinking about jumping in, this guide is a MUST have. If you already have a 3D printer and are trying to figure out what your options are for creating the 3D digital content, this guide is also for you.
I was already pretty well informed of the current state of the technology and already own a 3D printer so I wasn't expecting to get too much out of it, but it was still nice to see how my printer stacked up against the other dozen or so they reviewed. The sections on 3D software and 3D scanning technologies also had new information I hadn't seen before, and I'm already putting the new information I learned from this guide to use. So even for me, it was a worthwhile purchase.
While the information contained in this guide will no doubt be obsolete within a year since the technology is moving forward so fast right now (in terms of both hardware and software), I haven't seen any other resource as comprehensive as this one is on the subject anywhere else. Hopefully they will publish updated versions as required.
