Laura Reviews: The Post Birthday World,
This review is from: The Post-Birthday World: A Novel (P.S.) (Paperback)
In The Post-Birthday World, Shriver writes of protagonist Irina McGovern whose one choice (I won't give away what the choice is) could lead her down two different life paths. Shriver alternates chapters with Irina's life unfolding if she had made the choice as well as if she had not.
Who does she end up with? Who knows. But Shriver's lesson inspires the reader to remember that no matter what choices we make, that fate - if you believe in such concepts - takes us all down the same path, to the same ending, in our personal journey.
Perhaps not one of my all-time favorites, but it kept me awake and interested. I'd equate it to a film you'd rather watch on DVD than go to the movies for, but it's high-quality nonetheless.
