I Like Gin,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Book of Gin: A Spirited World History from Alchemists' Stills and Colonial Outposts to Gin Palaces, Bathtub Gin, and Artisanal Cocktails (Hardcover)
I like gin. I mean, who doesn't? Nothing says summertime better than sitting on the back porch, smoking some endo and sipping on a little gin and juice. Back in my younger days, my college roommates and I would sit around the table, drinking gin and tonic, talking in fake British accents while pretending to carve up a map of Africa among ourselves. Now, having read this gem, I realize we would have been better served speaking in fake Dutch accents while plotting how to best enslave south-east Asians. Those clever Dutch - not only have they graced the world with polders, red-light districts, and apartheid - but also genever, AKA "gin".
The Appendix to this delightful read also includes some simple do-it-yourself recipes. For all these years I've been using the juniper growing wild all over the back forty for pagan solstice rituals when I should have been distilling my own gin. Live and learn I guess.
