Not your typical comic book action flick,
This review is from: Hulk (Special Edition) (DVD)
I suppose, had I watched this DVD thinking I was going to view the typical American action flick I would have been disappointed. I was told by everyone I know who saw it that I would hate it (I love action flicks). I'm glad I didn't listen, I would have missed a near masterpiece. Not an action masterpiece but definitely a film masterpiece.
This film definitely isn't packed with the action of most Marvel films, instead it is more like an actual comic book and it would be hard for me to believe a true comic book fan could have missed this. Aside from the shots and editing that truly make it look as if we were watching a comic book come to life, the story line is just about the same tempo. The good guys and bad guys are pretty straight forward and the whole thing comes together nicely enough to propose a good sequel.
In most comic books, while the character development isn't on par with a Jane Austen novel, we do get to know the heroes well enough to like the good guys and the evil doers well enough to be glad when they "bite the dust." In Hulk this was done very well, in traditional comic book style, unlike so many of the other Marvel movies.
I wish more people would have seen this film for the work it was instead of just wanting more of the same smash 'em up, blast 'em up we usually get in the comic book film genre.
