5.0 out of 5 stars ZeroG Optimized XBOX 360 Controller Settings, April 1, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Shift 2 - Unleashed - Xbox 360 (Limited) (Video Game)
Great game, but default settings for the XBOX 360 controller are terrbilbe - just like the first one.

Counter-intuitive vs. Shift 1, but try the below and see if it makes a difference. I have tested extensively in both race and drift modes and can absolutely say the game just works for me now!

Feedback appreciated.

ZeroG Optimized XBOX 360 Controller Settings
--------------------------------------------
Steering Dead Zone: 3 <-- Key Change
Accelerator Dead Zone: 5
Brake Dead Zone: 5
Steering Sensitivity: 50 <-- MOST CRITICAL CHANGE
Acceleration Sensitivity: 50
Braking Sensitivity: 50
Speed Steering Sensitivity: 100

I play with all assists off and the elite driving model.

I created them. This is for the XBOX 360 using the Microsoft XBOX 360 Controller. You set these under advanced settings. I have not tried the game with my MS Wheel yet.

Thanks for the help ZeroG. I noticed your same post in the Shift 2 forums and lots of people looked at it but not many thanked you. I thought the biggest difference was "Steering Sensitivity: 50", which made a drastic improvement to my driving. One question: What exactly are the "dead zone" calibrations? What does it mean if you lower it or raise it?

nice! gonna try this out. I'm not a fan of the game so far with the default settings. I'm hoping.....

update: it has improved and overall enjoyment playing the game has increased. I have taken a few seconds off my lap times. overall good improvement over the default settings. Not sure why EA had them set to what they have cuz it feels way too floaty. Hey thanks for the tip by the way!! This really seemed to work.

Thanks! appreciate it. I'm playing some other settings myself. But I heard the MS wheel isn't so great with this, the Fanatec GT2 is better I heard.

On top of that the MS wheel was discontinued, so I can't buy one even if I wanted to. Are they making a replacement yet??

Spencer says:
A dead zone is the range of a zone in the center of an analog stick that does not return a value. It makes the controller less responsive the higher it is. With a low dead zone, you would always be turning, because the sticks don't stand straight up since the springs get weak over time.

Do not reconsider. This game sucks in terms of controller LAG ( it's like u move the stick today and the car reacts tomorrow). Second gripe I have is with the ridiculous physics. If u so much as touch another car, u will literally stick to it like GLUE and do all sorts of synchronized moves with the other car, while still sticking to it. Ridiculous!
