This review is from: Brain Rules for Baby: How to Raise a Smart and Happy Child from Zero to Five (Hardcover)
But my friends and family do.
After reading "Brain Rules", I knew I would read anything John Medina wrote. Then I saw this, and my first thought was "This couldn't be very useful to me", since my wife and I don't have children. Boy, was that wrong! First, I learned things about adults (whose foundation is rooted in childhood, of course); second, I can now discuss kids and parenthood with friends/family in a way I never could before; and third, my wife and i have always had Labrador Retrievers (each came to live with us at 7 weeks old as a true family member). We just got our 5th Lab puppy in 30 years.
While there are certainly significant differences between human children and puppies (my wife would disagree with this), the insights and lessons from this book are proving invaluable to us daily. For example - we are experiencing the sleep loss Medina describes, and have gone through some of the impact of that. Now i better understand what's been happening, and am taking steps to improve, among other things, the balance of care time (who gets up at night to take the puppy outside in the snow/cold to pee).
I've recommended this book to everyone i've spent more than a few minutes talking with, and have bought numerous copies for expectant and new parents. John Medina's gift is amazing!
