Sue Ellen Allen blessed me this Christmas with the story of her seven-year experience as a prisoner of the state of Arizona. I have visited a friend in prison in Florence and Safford, have been teaching incarcerated college students via the US mail for eight years, and volunteer at Perryville twice a year, conducting mock interviews and wellness workshops for soon-to-be-released prisoners. Even with this background, I gained an entirely new perspective on our penal system, especially here in Arizona. Sue Ellen's account is honest, detailed, and moving. This book is not just for people interested in our justice system. It is for anyone who longs for a greater appreciation of life and a broader understanding of humanity. Sue Ellen touched my heart and soul, and for that I am truly grateful. Sue Ellen, you are due so many apologies for the countless random injustices you endured. Let me offer you one now: I am SO sorry.
