Definitely not a "thriller",
This review is from: L.A. Mental: A Thriller (Hardcover)
Though it claims to be on its cover jacket. I think this book could more accurately be categorized as "metaphysical science fiction". And not very good at even being that.
I've never read anything by McMahon before, and I have to say that this book doesn't inspire me to try him again, either.
The opening pages start the story out well enough, but it goes rapidly downhill from there.
I found the style to be very pedestrian. There's never any buildup at all of dramatic tension. The characters are pretty dull people, never really inspiring any interest; I found myself being pretty blasé about them and whatever happened to them in the course of the book. Any party that was comprised of putting all these people in the same room would be Dullsville, man.
I thought the premise was pretty preposterous. Again, maybe if I'd gone into the book with the idea that it was science fiction, as opposed to a mainstream "thriller", I'd have been more open to the basic premises. But that wasn't the way the book's being marketed, so that made the main plot devices fairly ridiculous.
Why am I giving it that second star? Beats me. I guess I'm just in a good mood today.

Brian: Good mood star?? need a hug today? This would not be anything I'd be interested in. But on the good mood side: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family from me and mine.

This book is definitely not for me and your 2-star rating review has further convinced me of that. By the way, I view your 2-star rating based on your being in a good mood is just another example to support my belief that you are mellowing in your "golden" years.
I hope the Holiday Season keeps you in a good mood and that you keep up your helpful reviews. Happy Holidays!!
