This review is from: Ozeri Prestige Electric Wine Bottle Opener with Aerating Pourer, Foil Cutter and Elegant Recharging Stand (Kitchen)Ozeri Prestige Electric Wine Bottle Opener with Aerating Pourer, Foil Cutter and Elegant Recharging Stand
I was excited about buying the Ozeri Prestige Electric Wine Bottler Opener when I saw it on Amazon.com. I bought it as a replacement of my Oster electric wine opener which stopped charging after 2 years. The Ozeri worked well with good power and removed all types of corks (including synthetic corks). One downside of the Ozeri I have found is that it doesn't discharge the synthetic corks after removing them from the bottle - when reversing the opener to discharge the cork, they synthetic cork only comes out about an .5 to 1 from the opener and then it stops and the cork screw just continues to spin inside the cork. I have to grab on to the small amount of cork that is sticking out of the opener and pull gently on it while running the opener in the discharge mode. When I used my Oster electric opener it never removed the synthetic corks from the bottle so I guess removing a synthetic corks is an improvement Ozeri has over the Oster, but Ozeri needs to fix the issue with not being able to fully discharge the synthetic cork from the opener.
Beyond the synthetic cork discharge issue, I have experienced a far more disappointing issue with the Ozeri opener. Just after 2 months of use, one of the charging contacts on the inside rim of the opener popped loose after I discharged one of the traditional corks. The contact is just dangling now and so the opener won't charge. I sent an email to Ozeri support, but have not heard back on how they will handle a replacement of the opener yet. I guess in the meantime, I will have a chance to see how long I can continue to open bottles without being able to charge the opener, which seems to be one of the topics of discussion in other reviews on this product. It has been 10 days since the charging contact issue has occured and I have opened 10 bottles of wine so far. I wonder if I will get up to 80 bottles that Ozeri promotes for this product - however, hopefully I won't have to find out. I'm hoping Ozeri sends me a new opener before I go much further thru my stock of wine.
Nov 22, 2012 -Thanksgiving Day. Ozeri customer service contacted me and told me that there is a 1% product t defect rate (which in my opinion is quite low) and they said they are sending me a new wi e opener. I'm looking forward to receiving it and will update this review again after I have a chance to see if the new opener discharges synthetic corks and hopefully the charging issues do not occur again.
I had not received the replacement Ozeri Wine Bottle opener that the Ozeri Support representative said was being sent to me on Nov 22, 2012. I contacted them again today and inquired about the replacement opener and they said there must have been a shipping problem and promised me that they were sending out another opener today. Hopefully it is on the way.
For anyone concerned about the battery charge life and ability to open multiple wine bottles after a full charge I can say that I have not been able to charge my opener since the beginning of November when one of the charging contacts came loose on the opener. I have been opening bottles of wine on that last charge for about 6 weeks and I open 3 - 4 bottles of wine per week. I would say that this is an impressive charge capacity because not only have I opened over 20 bottles of wine, I have done this over a 6 week period without being able to charge the opener. My old Oster wine bottle opener did not maintain enough power to open bottles after about a week of sitting off the charger. This is why I am looking forward to getting my replacement opener, which hopefully will not have the same defect as my first unit. I just wish it wasn't taking so long to get the replacement.
