A 5-star game for reasons you probably haven't heard yet,

This review is from: BioShock Infinite - Playstation 3 (Video Game)
I'm sure you've already read reams of review copy praising the quality of the art, the depth of the story and the way it makes you think. The word "experience" was no doubt employed several times. I am not going to write that.
But not because I disagree, no I won't write it BECAUSE I agree and because I think everybody already knows that. It's a Ken Levine game, of course it has that going for it. So, if that's enough for you, run out and buy it now and don't wait another second.
If you still need some convincing, I'm coming at you from a purely gameplay perspective. I love this game from a pure gameplay perspective. Like Bioshock before it, you could just be a crackshot with a sidearm, and take everyone down that way, but me, I like to use my plasmids, excuse me, vigors to slay mine enemy. And this game takes such good care of you in that regard.
In every enemy encounter, you have a choice of 8 different vigors, each of which has a couple of ways of being used. And you can upgrade them to do those things better or slightly differently. I don't want to go into details and spoil it, but every vigor has a situation that it is particularly well suited to, and better still, every situation has a few vigors that could work well for you, depending on your play style.
And that's the beauty of it, it leads to emergent gameplay. Strategies that you think of in a firefight that were probably never considered by the makers. Okay, I'm sure that they were, but when you pull them off you'll be thinking "I'm a god-damned genius!" and that's a great achievement on irrational's part. But there's more! There are 8 vigor combinations (which I urge you to research yourself, they're extremely doable) with spectacular effects to add to the depth.
The weapons can also be upgraded depending on whether you're the sniper type, the in-your-face shotgun type or whatever. And the gear (4 pieces of clothing that give you special stat boosts/properties/powers) makes a big difference to your play style too. I'm on my second-run now in the infamous 1999 mode (and YES it is VERY hard) and all my gear is designed to make me a melee wrecking ball, so when the chips are down I just throw down with my sky-hook. Last time through I was an aerial assassin, and used a pretty different strategy.
So, in conclusion, just from a game-play point of view, this is the most enjoyable FPS I've played in literally years. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! ^-^
