4.0 out of 5 stars Great Italian Beginner Cookbook!, May 20, 2010

This review is from: Skinny Italian: Eat It and Enjoy It - Live La Bella Vita and Look Great, Too! (Paperback)
Teresa's heart and humor shine through on each page. She gives you insights into real Italian cooking with delicious recipes that are easy make and not only does she share some of her family's treasured recipes, but also she offers up some helpful tips and advice on how to stay in shape while living a fulfilling life.

The one and only thing that kept me from giving this book 5 stars were the references to Danielle. Skinny Italian is filled with sweet stories about the Giudice family but the negative remarks about Danielle don't fit in with the love of family Teresa displays through out the book. If all references to Danielle had been excluded I think this book could have been a great resource for those looking to learn how to cook authentic Italian food, especially to those who don't watch the show and have no idea who Danielle is.

That's too bad that the book is filled with comments about her co-stars. I was really looking forward to getting this book until I read your review.
Would you still recommend the book regardless of the negative comments she puts in?

If you're looking for a book full of easy true Italian recipes then this is the book for you. However, the comments about Danielle really stuck out to me because the rest of the book is filled with sweet stories about Teresa and her family. They just didn't fit with the tone and I have to wonder why her editor allowed them into the book.

It's still a great book, the recipes are delicious and the section on making your own sauce is excellent. It's a book I would love to give as part of a housewarming gift but I can't because the comments are inappropriate. Also 5-10 years down the road, when the show is over, no one is going to remember who Danielle is and that will make these comments seem all the more out of place in this book.

I agree. The references to Danielle were completely inappropriate and made the book less than it could be. The recipes are indeed wonderful, although Teresa generalizes too much sometimes. Example: that the true term is "sauce," not gravy for the tomatoes in pasta. My family always said gravy, and so do others.

I can! Ignore the stories and create the recipes. I am a busy mother, grad student, and full-time employed. I need quick, healthy fresh food. This book gave me great recipes that were easy to make and were very tasty. I grew up on Italian cooking. The women spent hours preparing a meal. The recipes in the book give you the same meals for less prep and cooking time. The herb and spice section is brilliant.

I agree her references to family and friends are not necessary in this great cookbook.

Since my last post above, they've stopped showing any "housewives" on NBC... but I see from excerpts all over TV that She's even more of a lunatic now.... very sick woman, that Teresa, never liked Carolina either. At least the NYC Housewives were more normal and educated. I wouldn't contribute a DIME to Teresa and her gangster / crook husband's finances. not for a book, nor for anything else. Maybe if it went down to a PENNY [if it hasn't already... used], but then it wouldn't be free shipping lol so the hell with it... FAST, Easy, Healthy, Low Carb cooking is too simple anyway, to need a book, especially Italian. I could write my own if I had the time.

I love Italian food and especially cooking Italian;, however, I so hate the derogatory remarks that I just can't get a good feel for the book and won't buy it.
