A natural evolution for Metalocalypse,

This review is from: Metalocalypse: Season 4 (DVD)
Traditionally, Metalocalypse has been a regular (for lack of a better word) comedy show wherein Dethklok usually plays one song per episode which tends to be only thematically related to the goings-on of that episode. There have been a few episodes in which individual characters sang songs directly stemming from the plot, like Skwisgaar in "Fatherklok," or Toki in several episodes that focused on him, but they were rare. In season 4, however, there are a lot of episodes where this happens, often more than once, as the show finally starts to commit to its potential as a legitimate musical. Then, of course, later came The Doomstar Requiem, which was one giant medley of songs, making it more of a musical than most musicals that are out there.
I can't say for sure whether it's a coincidence or a causality, but in my opinion, the more musical-ish the show gets, the better it also gets. This is the best season of the series.
