So many terrible movies, but cheap!,
This review is from: Marvel Bundle (X-Men / Daredevil / X2: X-Men United / Elektra / Fantastic 4 / X-Men: The Last Stand / Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer / X-Men Origins: Wolverine / X-Men: First Class) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
This bundle does one thing very well. It effectively shows you just how terrible most of the Marvel movies were before the "Avengers" series began (Avengers series = IM1, IM2, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Avengers).
X1 and X2 - these movies are ok. I loved them when they came out, but watching them now, in the post-Avengers era, is a bit of a chore. They're still decent though.
X3 - this movie is an abomination against comic book movies. I saw this in the theater the night before I got married. My wife should be thrilled that I was able to pull myself out of bed the next day after watching this movie.
Xmen First Class - Ok. This one I like. Fun, exciting.
Wolverine - I was wrong. THIS movie is an abomination against comic book movies. The story was terrible. The fighting and action was terrible. The guy who played Gambit...what kind of accent was he going for there? They ruined Deadpool! ARGH!!!
FF & FF2 - these movies are just bad. As in BAD. Jessica Alba as Sue Storm? Seriously? Chris Evans as the Human Torch was awesome which is why I'm glad they grabbed him to play Captain America. The rest of the movies are cheesy, silly, and just bad.
Daredevil & Elektra - Ben Affleck's career suffered because of Daredevil. He's only recently started to recover. Enough said. Elektra was made simply because of contractual obligations. It shows. Don't watch either of these.
So, let's count...out of 9 movies only 1 is worth watching over and over. 3 are worth watching if I throw in X1 and X2. You can get those 3 movies much cheaper seperately so don't bother with this bundle. Otherwise you might be tempted to actually watch X3, Wolverine, FF, FF2, Daredevil, or Elektra. Please, don't.

I pretty much agree. X-men 1 and 2 are OK, First Class is the best, and the rest are only worth watching if you are bored and they show up on cable TV.
My only disagreement is that the Directors Cut of Daredevil isn't all that bad actually it's significantly different than the theatrical cut. I would put it in the ok category with the first two X-men movies. The biggest problem with the Directors Cut is that they left in the horrid soundtrack.

Agreed. The only reason Amazon is probably running this deal is because of an overstock in the warehouses. And let's face it, I wouldn't want that many copies setting around either.

The only film here I didn't like was First Class. None of the rest of them are perfect, but I enjoyed all of 'em.
I have mixed feelings about any more franchises reverting to Marvel. I'd have been all for it PRIOR to the Disney purchase, but the reality is the only reason Marvel's films have been so good (these included) is that THEY were in control and could shop them around. DC that's attached to Warner kept getting joke films that had nothing to do with their alleged source material, and I'm worried that at some point the same could happen to Marvel/Disney.
If you think any of these are bad, watch...anything from prior to The Matrix and X-Men 1. The Batman films are literally the exact opposite of a Batman story, and everything else is just as bad.
EDIT: Oh, I do agree about Jessica Alba though. Nothing against her per se, but she just doesn't seem right for the role at all. I hated how they'd always stick her in front of the other three, when it was the other three who actually seemed like pretty good casting.

This is easily one of the BEST reviews that I have ever read on Amazon. Kudos my friend for an honest evaluation of a few good and a lot of terrible movies.

I liked Daredevel fine, but I'm curious as to what changes they made to the Director's Cut?

I agree with Larry on pretty much all counts. The first two X-men movies are good and worth owning if you are a fan of the X-men. The third X-men movie I pretend doesn't exist because it is terrible. First Class is pretty solid. Magneto's storyline with Michael Fassbender's performance makes it, as Wolverine's storyline with Hugh Jackman's performance makes the first two movies. The Wolverine movie, though, while it has some finer points, is pretty bad. I mean, even if you concede the writing and acting is poor and just watch it for the entertainment value of the action, the production quality is weirdly amateurish. This is a big-budget superhero movie, and you forget to apply lighting effects to Wolverine's claws? The Fantastic Four movies seem almost like somebody conceived and wrote them in the 70s and applied today's production capabilities to it. Daredevil and Elektra are probably the most-frequently forgotten superhero movies of all.
If you're a superhero movie collector and don't have the majority of these films and just want to have them to have them, this is a great deal. If you're expecting great films, you're probably going to be disappointed.

I disagree with some of your points, especially in regards to X Men. However, that being said, I thought your review was great, funny, and fairly accurate.

thank you for "reviewing" the movies, but i think this space on amazon is to review the actual product,, just let me know when u buy it, how the special features are, presentation, any additional versions, subtitles, if u r not planning on buying, go to flixster, they appreciate nagging.
