4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad for its price, still working fine, July 26, 2012
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Insten® Headset Headphone with Mic Compatible with Xbox 360 Wireless Controller (Accessory)
Came in about a week and a half, it worked fine the first time i plugged it in. still working for a month now, it came in secure plastic like packaging, some people may say the mic is to the left, but all you have to do is flip it over and BOOM its on the right side. only complaint was that one side of the headphone thing came off, luckily its re-attachable, so it was no big deal.

*NOTE* Its only for in-game communications, no in-game-sounds will come from these.

No he cannot, this product is just used for communicating with other online players, and not to hear the sounds of the actual game, that would come still from the speakers. Traditional gaming headsets (where you can hear the actual game) can go up from 100 dollars, but what i recommend if your television (which has the xbox hooked up to) has a headphone jack, to use that. It may be in the front, or in the back, but it should say speaker/audio or have a icon of a headset above or near it. plug headphones/earphones inside like you would for a Ipod or and sound play back device. sound should come from your earphones/headphones. This is what i use for my Xbox gaming experiences. If your television does not have one, however, may god help you.

like i said previously, these types of head sets are for talking across the internet to other players. if you look at the bottom of a Xbox controller you shout see a small hole with other things at the side, that is for online communications and do not serve for sound.

On the other hand, a traditional gaming headset costs a lot, and require some hooking up, and depending on which one you buy, can require an extensive set up. traditional gaming headsets such as Turtle Beaches (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Turtle-Beach---Ear-Force-X12-Gaming-Headset-for-Xbox-360/3302112.p?id=1218394225104&skuId=3302112) (http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=3273846011) require another small box to direct the sound to the headsets, and are recommended for the more hardcore gamer, who is willing to spend the money to help them improve their game.

Unless you have a tech geek in your family (much like i am), or your grandson knows his things and your grandson is of a good age, or a person who knows the basis of wires and plugs, i would suggest finding an alternative (like the earphones or headphone jack hole your television might have) or just pestering at him to lower the volume. As from experience, my mother repeatedly shouted at me, but because i was using my headset, i didn't hear a word of it!
