Not fun to play,

This game is very poorly ported for the PC. The menus are clunky, there are a significant number of loading screens in-game that take awhile, and there are not enough checkpoints (If you die, you have to redo a lot work). It seems like the game developers put in minimal effort for the PC version. I assume it will run better on Xbox or PlayStation; however, even then it would still not be a fun game.
I have played GTA 3 and Vice City and found both to be great games - GTA 4 is not. The story is boring and shallow, the characters are unlikable and not relatable, the missions are repetitive (go here, kill this guy), the mini-games are more of a chore than a game, driving is not fun (even after mastering handling), and free-roaming is not as immersive as in previous games.
For people who have never played one of the other GTA's or a similar game before, I think they might enjoy this title. Otherwise, I do not recommend this game. Even if a game is not good but just OK, I try to finish it to get my money's worth. This will be only the second game that I have not finished because it was too boring. Even though the previous GTA's are graphically less impressive, they are far more enjoyable and have much more things to do in-game. I recommend those over this title.
P.S. - I activated and installed this through Steam, rather than the Amazon download link. It is compatible with Win 7 and earlier (but the development team did a lousy job of porting). You'll need to create the Social Club and Windows LIVE accounts in order to save and also to not be harassed with warnings.
