Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I realize it takes a huge effort to assemble a book of this type, including the various exercises, but this book is simply terrible. I apologize to the author and his team, but there is no logical flow of sections. Reasonable educational texts start at a high level and gradually drill down into more complicated details, but remain focused on the primary topic and its variations to build a solid understanding. This book does not do that. It bounces idea to idea, and constantly introduces unrelated concepts at random points that only serve to confuse matters. I'm reviewing this book as a vine reviewer (not as a student); however, I'm a reasonably skilled statistician, and I find this book incredibly hard to follow. Further, the "exercises" are not exercises designed to reinforce learning. Instead, the author points you to an excel file and shows the reader the results of different techniques (e.g., calculating a mean), rather than walking the reader through doing it him/herself. Additionally, the electronic files included are also terrible; they're not well organized, well labeled, or useful. Its like this book tries to reach both the novice and the ultra sophisticated user, but never achieves either. I cannot recommend this book.
