I fell in love with the main character, a kid transitioning from his childhood hanging around with boyhood friends to first love and coming to terms with the realities of the Hugh Manatee of his parents. This kid is who Holden Caulfied (The Catcher in the Rye) wishes he could be - less neurotic, more self-aware, more humane and forgiving of the foibles of others but still experiencing the same confusion and pain as he deals with the fundamental truth of life - LOVE HURTS whether it's love for a girl or love of your parents.
This book would be an excellent read for teenagers coming to terms with particular social challenges but you'll have to read the book to discover what those challenges are. This book is funny and nostalgic and poignant and truthful and uplifting. Excellent book that achieves the tricky balance of being equally appealing and "message-worthy" to both teenage and adult readers.
