1.0 out of 5 stars Decent collection, but puts off earlier commitments, February 23, 2009
This review is from: Alternate Gerrolds: An Assortment of Fictitious Lives (Paperback)
A great book, with lots of enjoyable moments. However, it just further insults his fans who have been waiting fifteen years for The War Against the Chtorr series to be completed. Gerrold is a great author, but he should stop releasing new works and collections until he finishes the series that brought him the most fans. Yes, A Method for Madness is supposed to be released soon, but that has been delayed more than Guns N Roses "Chinese Democracy" and I fear the quality may be similar when eventually released. Please Mr Gerrold; finish what you started before doing anything else new.

The person who wrote this is obviously not a writer and do not have a clue to the writing process in any way. Certainly we have story ideas we are working on, have projects in the works, even have series which we wish to complete, but the creative process flows when it flows. If someone is not "feeling" a story, it is no good to force oneself to do it. It will be less than best results all too often or impossible.

This "reviewer" did not review the stories themselves but only rated it negatively because they wanted to READ SOMETHING ELSE! That is absolutely preposterous, completely subjective and NOT what reviewing is about. Extremely pathetic review. That Amazon cleared it, is even more distasteful. If the collection is decent why give it a 1 star! This loser is just mad the writer hadn't churned out a different book!

Also note they DUPLICATED THE SAME MESSAGE on another of David Gerrold's books And a duplicate post on another book by David Gerrold also. The Involuntary Human Total loser.

Robert, why don't you read Gerrold's Chtorr FAQ -- http://www.gerrold.com/Chtorr-FAQ.htm -- before you go off making a jerk out of yourself in public again? It's because of his commitment to quality (and the extreme difficulty of writing this series) that it's taking so long, along with other personal matters that are none of our business. I have zero respect for anyone who gives a one-star review to something good just so that they can be pissy about something else.

A great book given a 1-star review? This needs to be deleted.

Todd Gurvis says:
A desire to be reading a book that wasn't written yet is no cause to unfairly rate a decent short story collection unconnected to said series in any way other than shared authorship. Shame on you. And shame on Amazon for not deleting the unfair and irrelevant "review."

Writers can often have more than one project underway at a time. And in the case of a short story collection such as this, it is quite likely that these evolved over a period of years, some potentially dating back to when Mr. Gerrold was writing the last Chtorr book. And for the record, David Gerrold had a following long before he wrote the first Chtorr novel and is appreciated for much more than (and indeed, by some such as myself) for works OTHER than the Chtorr series!
