5.0 out of 5 stars Fastest flash drive I've had :), December 14, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Silicon Power 32 GB Blaze B10 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (read speed up to 90 MB/s, write speed up to 60 MB/s, SP032GBUF3B10V1B) (Personal Computers)
EDIT - 27th Dec - Got USB 3.0:
On test 1 I got:
Read speeds : 55MB/s
Write speeds: 45MB/s

I was looking for an inexpensive 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive with good write speeds, and I came across this.

Thoughts:
Looks - It looks slim and slick. I noticed the colours did change as advertised, but I didn't really take note of that.

Speed - Sadly, I don't have access to a USB 3.0 computer, so I had to test it on USB 2.0.

It came formatted as FAT32, It's on exFAT now so I can copy files bigger than 4GB. I noticed a slight speed decrease in NTFS.

Test 1 - Copying over a folder of video files approx 350MB each:
Write speed - 23-25MB/s.
Read speed - 29-30MB/s.

EDIT:

Test 2 - CrystalDiskMark

* MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s]

Sequential Read : 30.802 MB/s
Sequential Write : 27.660 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 30.586 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 0.509 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 4.680 MB/s [ 1142.7 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 0.003 MB/s [ 0.8 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 4.680 MB/s [ 1142.5 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 0.005 MB/s [ 1.2 IOPS]

Test : 500 MB [I: 43.3% (12.5/28.9 GB)] (x1)
Date : 2011/12/14 21:18:20
OS : Windows 7 SP1 [6.1 Build 7601] (x64)

Anyway, it's definitely capable of higher read speeds on a USB 3.0 port, and probably higher write speeds as well. Will update this review if I get USB 3.0.

That's a great review thanks.

Those sequential speeds are OK but look at the random write speeds - they're poor to terrible and it's the weak areas which will hammer real-world performance. Unless you're just streaming video...

Well yeah, for copying stuff here and there it's fine & better than the rest at this price point. You would probably be in trouble if you tried running an OS from this though.

Question: Did you have a problem with having to plug the flash drive in REALLY slowly in order for the drivers to install?
