Not what I expected,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Out of Place in Time and Space: Inventions, Beliefs, and Artistic Anomalies That Were Impossibly Ahead of Their Time (Paperback)
When I heard about this book, I was intrigued. However I must have gotten a bogus book compared to what the other reviewers describe because while he talks about all of these interesting "out of time" inventions, and it is a very fun read, his conclusions keep going back to the mundane.
I have no problem with that, except some of his answers as to what something represented and how it was therefore normal for the time and place bordered on the idiotic.
Don't get me wrong, it is a well written book and I enjoyed the stories. I just think he tried to hard to answer how something was possible given the world and time it was created. Some of those explanations made sense but some were such a stretch it seemed like his publisher said "say whatever you want, but don't say 'we don't know'"
Anyway, I'd recommend you read it but get it used. It is not a keeper.
