Fun, Safe Conversation Starters for Family and Friends,
This review is from: Chat Pack: Fun Questions to Spark Conversations (Cards)Are you looking for a fun way to liven up a family get together or shy friends? This "Chat pack" might be the answer.
Portable, practical, and affordable, I've used these cards in intermediate and high intermediate English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to spark friendly, safe conversations. (I did carefully go through the collection and pull out a dozen plus questions that seemed problematic even for community college class, but educational context requires more sensitivity than casual gatherings of familiar friends and relatives.) Better for ice-breakers than sustained conversation in an English class (a secondary, unintended audience), the cards however can be easily deployed by English language learners and conversation clubs.
And I'm also a fan of the TTableTopics Originalseries for the same reasons. Again, they are affordable, practical, and portable - and an indirect way to create new, often satisfying conversations.
Bias confession: I naturally also believe that Compelling Conversations: Questions and Quotations on Timeless Topics, an ESL conversation book that I co-authored and features over 1450 questions, provides a wider range of materials for English teachers and students. I must admit, however, that conversation cards have the advantages of portability, price, and flexibility for many ESLCompelling Conversations: Questions and Quotations on Timeless Topics teachers too.
