A Must Read,
This review is from: On the Mend: Revolutionizing Healthcare to Save Lives and Transform the Industry (Hardcover)
Whether you are a physician, nurse, lab tech, pharmacist or a patient; if you have ever been in an ER or a hospital (or not), this book is a Must Read!
My husband is a two time cancer survivor as well as having been in the hospital for other problems. I also have had many experiences with the healthcare industry.
We all know that medical costs are out of sight and there seems to be no end. Patient care certainly leaves much to be desired!
This wonderful and insightful book has a PLAN! We have been waiting for Government health care reform for some time and nothing is happening. "On the Mend" shows a several-year work in progress that is actually making much needed improvements in many hospitals. Their Lean program has made some serious strides in trimming down costs and making the entire procedure more quality focused--from the time the patient is involved until the goal for the patient has been accomplished. The main goal is the patient: the care, comfort and treatment in a timely, caring manner.
Many of us have had long, long waits in the ER where you see multiple doctors, none of which knows what the other has done, unnecessary tests, no communication, wasted time looking for supplies, staff and/or a bed. Then you have the "blame game". In other words, it is a nightmare!
ThedaCare and the Doctors involved have been trying to mend the system by developing a system that has made vast improvements to health care, saved lives, reduced errors and saved costs.
I strongly recommend this book for anyone interested in medical reform that puts the patient first.
