Finding Mrs. Warnecke is more Cindi Rigsbee's journey to find her own voice as a teacher than a search for the teacher who so inspired her. A three-time Teacher of the Year, Rigbee often thinks back to Mrs. Warnecke the first grade teacher who had a profound impact on her as a child. Mrs. Warnecke was able to recognize the shy, introverted child who needed encouragement to bloom. Though Mrs. Warnecke was a first year teacher and very inexperienced, she had a gift for touching her students. Under her guidance, Rigsbee began to read and write and enjoy the exploration of her talents. That carried her along through school and eventually she began her career as a teacher, herself. many of the challenges she faced in her classroom were examined through the lens of Mrs. Warnecke's influence.
Cindi Rigsbee had kept in touch with her beloved teacher for several years after leaving her first grade classroom. Good Morning America worked on bringing teacher and student together in 2008. That meeting inspired many to share their stories of a teacher who influenced their life. Mrs. Warnecke was floored at this attention--she had no idea she could have made such an impact on a former student's life. This is a tender thank you to a woman who cared and inspired another to follow her path. Thank you Mrs. Longorio, Mrs. Farr, Mrs. Igo and Mrs. Byrd.
