This review is from: Back to Blood: A Novel (Hardcover)
Back to Blood: A Novel Back to Blood is another Tom Wolfe splash (literally) of characters whose feelings are followed by layers of delightfully written and often satirical self absorption, with some interesting typeface bots <<<to signify micro reactions, of the 'Oh, wow!' variety>>>. The story moves quickly through a group of intertwined characters each in a different ethnic group who are trying to live life and get head ahead in the competitive diaspora of Miami. No question, if you're not from that area and know nothing about it, this is a finely focused lens on Cubans, Haitians, 'whites,' Russians, and the sex/hedonistic version of the unwashed masses or in this case, undressed masses. If you like a story with lots lots lots of sex, run don't walk to buy this. It's literally part of the plot. As he did in Bon Fire, the story ends with a moral: Yes, you get punished for your good deeds, but do good anyway. It works out. A happy ending? Tom Wolfe? As you might expect, yes, but adjusted for reality.
