Nano Got Ya's,
This review is from: Apple iPod nano 8 GB Black (4th Generation) (Discontinued by Manufacturer) (Electronics)
Just purchased the 8G 4th generation Nano for my 14yr old. He loves it but has expressed concern about the battery life. Not a serious issue but be advised it does not last as long as previous Nano's. Also, the traditional USB based charging accessories do not charge this device. Only a standard computer based USB port seems to work. We tried to use various older ac-usb,battery pwr USB, DC-usb nothing charged it. Seems Apple decided to wire the pwr to the USB pins and not the firewire. Has caused another "Apple" generated situation where you have to go out and purchase product specific accessories.

Peple beware of this IPOD, I love Apple and have been changing my Nano since the 1rst edition. I went running to change my 3rd Gen Nano for the Nanochromatic and I have lost all my accesories....a lot of money. It has a new battery charging system that is not compatible with old accesories. I own 4 speakers (JBL, ilive, Roxy who used to charge the IPOD when listening so I never had to worry about the batteries. This new 4Gen does not charge with any old speaker you own. It won-t charge with any Firewire cable nor with your car accesories....Just now I was looking for an FM transmitter and car charger for this new Nano and it-s not available yet...either you charge it or listen...and the battery is dead in 2 days....so if you don-t want to change all the accesories you had built neatly into your home before...keep your previous model...

My old ipod speaker dock does not charge but plays music, but the original ipod usb-->dock connector plugged into a USB/AC wall adapter will charge it. So must use OEM dock connector to get it to work. sucks but not a big for me.

My Monitor Audio ipod dock does NOT charge the 4th gen nano, but, my Onkyo ipod dock DOES charge it.
I'm thinking of buying a sony dock/speaker combination but worried about whether it will charge this nano. Need to test it in the store I guess.
I'm starting to think it's best to NOT buy mini systems with built in dock, since Apple keeps changing the standards (video changed in the 2007 revision, now charging standard changed). Rather, just get your favorite mini system and then buy either an Apple dock or some other dock that does work.
