Plug and play networking,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I bought this kit to help a friend who needed to connect a new printer to a wired network router. The problem was, it's in an old building and the router was downstairs from the printer. A wireless print server they had was having driver problems with Windows 7, so we thought we'd give this a try. Here's how it went: open box, look at picture instructions, plug a cable into the router then into the single port device (you get two devices and two cables). Plug the device into a wall outlet (surge devices, power strips, extension cords not allowed). Do the same upstairs for the printer. Install the printer's driver after you use the printer's built in utility to print a report with the new IP address for the now network based printer. It just works. They can also now plug in two computers upstairs rather than use wifi which is a bit weak at this distance in the old building. If you want simple, this is it. The only problem might be misunderstandings and not enough information in the instructions. A disk comes with the devices which includes a slightly better manual and an encryption utility that's optional.
I happen to have a whole house surge device on the power panel at home, and I confirmed that this blocks the signal and these devices won't work if a surge suppressor is in the circuit between them. The lights seem to show things are fine, but you just can't use the network.
If it would be hard for you to run a cable, this might just be the answer you're looking for.
