Great country Christmas album,
This review is from: Cheers, it's Christmas. (Audio CD)
This is my first Blake Shelton CD and it might not be my last. I am not a huge country fan. I have seen Blake on The Voice, I love Christmas, and the convergence of those two facts convinced me that I should give this CD a listen.
The emotion in Blake's voice really comes through. He feels these lyrics. The most moving song is the reworked Home with Michael Buble. I honestly don't think much about Michael B but I love the two of them together on this song.
I own a ton of Christmas music, and honestly I have enough versions of White Christmas, Winter Wonderland, etc., in every genre to last a lifetime. What makes this CD for me are the unusual songs. In addition to Home, I also love Oklahoma Christmas (with Reba), Santa's Got a Choo-Choo Train, and Time for Me to Come Home. I think Blake does something special with I'll Be Home for Christmas, and I do love his version of Jingle Bell Rock with wife Miranda Lambert. Probably 8 of the tracks on this generous 14-track effort are really special.
It is part of the drill for an artist to introduce a Christmas record with some version of "Since I was a little kid, I have always loved Christmas." Scotty McCreery says pretty much the same thing. Blake proves his love of Christmas with this record - the joy and passion are right there to hear. Scotty's effort is a little more pedestrian, I'm sorry to say.
So far for me this is the best new Christmas record of the season.
