This review is from: The Heavenly Man: The Remarkable True Story of Chinese Christian Brother Yun (Paperback)
I am an American academic, not a Chinese peasant. Yet I am deeply moved and troubled by this story of a simple Chinese man so powerfully used by God for evangelism and discipleship in the underground church of China, and now as a prophet of repentance and faith around the world outside of China.
The young Yun had to pray and live on a small bowl of rice for 100 days to get his first Bible, which he immediately began to memorize and preach from. This man knows of terrible suffering, both physically and psychologically. He has been tortured; he has been betrayed by his brothers in Christ; he nearly died on a supernaturally long fast.
Most American Christians probably do not know what "seeking God" means. After reading this book, you will have a better idea. Although Yun admits sins which hindered his ministry, he embodies a whole-hearted and passionate seeking of God's guidance and power for ministry.
Brother Yun has much to teach a complacent, lukewarm, and spoiled American Church. He has much to teach me. May God send fire to shake the world again through those liberated through the work of his only Son.
