3.0 out of 5 stars Loved it but first real trial reveals flaws, March 2, 2014

This review is from: BESTEK Waterproof Canvas DSLR Camera Shoulder Bag with Shockproof Insert - Khaki (Electronics)
The zipper on my 20+year old camera bag finally gave and I sprung for this based on Amazon reviews. I am impressed with the looks and functionality. Both zipper and fold over snaps. Plenty of room for camera, 2 lenses, flash, phone, chargers, tablet, etc. I agree with a previous reviewer about more padding on the bottom, and I think more Velcro compartment dividers would be nice. However, at this price point who can argue? I pirated the padding and dividers from my old bag, reinforcing the bottom and created more slots. The security on the front and back pockets is a little flimsy with just a snap fold over, and I wouldn't put anything of value in them while traveling (They are large enough to hold water bottles. Jury is still out on the strap for comfort but it is long enough to wear cross shouldered to prevent grab and run.

Half way through my first real field trial, and the results are not great. The buckles have a tendency to come off, if not on the highest buckle point. The rivets on the snaps have started to bend. The zipper ring pulled apart and the leather handle came off. On the positive side, There is a ton of room in this bag as it is not rigid. Even with equipment in place (camera, 2 lenses), there is room for a bottle of wine on top!

Hi, Scott,
I really want to know about the bag that lasted you 20+ years! Seriously, WHAT was that bag?
Also... I buy camera bags like other girls buy purses, and I'd like to suggest that you might look seriously at Ape backpacks if you haven't already?
My Ape camera backpack has my confident vote that it will outlive all my other packs or bags. They obviously put thought and pride into their designs, and their prices are reasonable for what you get.
As always when I say things like that, I have to add that no, I am not an affiliate for any company.

The Filson/Magnum bag is one to look at. Look at the Leica Store, DC website, they have a huge selection of camera bags.

I'm concerned about the snap buckles. Would it be easy to sew on the buckle so that you have to unbuckle like a normal 'belt' buckle ? The ease vs security is my concern. Undoing a buckle is a lot slower than a snap.

the bag has a zipper as well as the buckle which makes them more decorative than functional

I'd bet dollars to donuts that his old bag was a Domke.
