5.0 out of 5 stars OMG, Comfortable AND Sexy! But, beware..., October 30, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: FitFlop Women's Electra Sandal (Apparel)
I've found that when I wear shoes with a heel (even a platform low heel), my feet get this weird numb feeling, for days after wearing (scary!). That does NOT happen with these shoes. I can wear them all day and night long (walking, dancing, standing) with no discomfort whatsoever. Seriously, these are my "go to" shoes - I wear them as often as possible. I'm picky about comfort and style and fit, and these shoes are perfect for me!

I happened upon these (in black) at a local store. I was looking for a nice pair of black sandals. I love Teva Mush (flip-flops), and various Birkenstock styles, but they are generally very casual looking (not quite sexy enough). I tried the FitFlop Electra on, along with Sketchers of a similar style. Both were comfy (and close in price), but I noticed the FitFlops felt "right". I bought them and have happily worn them almost every day since (6+ months). They still look great (I do flip a few sequins back into place every so often, just so they stay lined up). They are still immensely comfortable. And, thanks to their design, I can wash the part where my foot goes, if needed!

These are dressy enough to wear in the evening in the summer or while on vacation, and can also be worn with jeans or a nice cotton skirt. But, they're comfortable enough that you'll wanna wear them around the house, with sweatpants and a hoodie!

Don't be surprised if you find yourself looking to buy more clothes that will go with them, just so you can wear them more often ~ :)

Oh yeah, and they claim to burn more calories when you wear them. I want them in every color.

These sandals are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

UPDATE Aug 2012:
CAUTION!! These shoes are addictive! These were my first pair of FitFlops and certainly not my last! Currently, I have almost a dozen (4 in this style, walkstars, hoopers, the boots, the clogs, the sneakers...), and, these original pair still look pretty good after two years and lots of walking, dancing, sauntering, jaunting, and some hula-hooping! I've got a few friends and family members hooked, too! One friend had severe foot pain and was due to have surgery for plantar fascitis, but then I got her her 1st pair of FitFlops, and her pain went away! And, my mom told me, "I THOUGHT I wore comfy shoes UNTIL I tried a pair of FitFlops!" She's hooked, too! Caveat Emptor! :D

I found out the reason my feet were going numb was because I had tarsal tunnel in my ankles. I went barefoot or wore flat flip flops most of the time, and that made things worse. Fit flops are more supportive, and my surgeon said he recommends them for a sandal, along with Dansko and Spenco sandals

PattCatt - thanks for reading my review and for your input! I never thought of that. I'm in flat shoes 49% of the time and barefoot 49% of the time. Never numbness then, only the 2% of times when I've worn any sort of a heel (or sometimes, a sneaker at the gym...hmmm...).

I have looked into Dansko & Spenco before. I bought a pair of Spenco's that didn't fit (they are loved by a good friend now!). FitFlops are still working great for me, though!

Here's to comfy shoes and happy feet!

I want to ask anyone if after walking in flip flops have they had terrible leg cramps at night.? I walk my dog at night when it is cooler and for the past few mornings my ankle for a while feels broken. I am curious as I just can't be the only one. Thank you, Ann

Ann - no, I've never had that issue. i walk in flip-flops (usually teva or fit-flop) all times of the day and night, different weather, different terrain, etc. No cramps or otherwise negative feelings. And, I've never heard anyone report that, either (I talk about flip-flops and fit-flops a lot - i'm a fan).

Are you drinking enough water and eating enough potassium? I'm no doctor, but I've heard those two things may help cramps. But, if it's still happening, maybe a professional can provide some relief.

Good luck!

Since you also wear Tevas, may I ask if you wear the same size in fit-flops and tevas?

I really want to order some fit-flops but am abroad for the winter and exchange would be next to impossible if I order the wrong size.

Carrie B - well, this is a tricky one to answer. Back in 2010, yes, i wore a 10 in both and both fit perfectly. (I am a solid 10 - haha!) But, in recent years, Tevas narrowed their sole and pulled their toe thong back, so they no longer fit well at all. In addition, I bought fitflops last year and it seems as if they have changed their "mold" as well. The soles have also gotten narrower and on some, the toe bar has gotten much more prominent. I guess it's a good thing I stocked up on both brands before the change - yay for amazon addiction! haha! I don't know where you are, but I can tell you that I've seen FitFlops in many places in Milan, and central Northern Italy (Lombardia), so maybe there's a store near you where you can try them on? If you can find an older model (wider sole, flatter toe bar) then, they should match the sizing of the older model teva mushes (wider sole, more forward thong). I guess, with this logic, then the new ones might match up, as well (but, you might have to get a size up if you are a solid ##, rather than a half-size).

Hope that helps!

Thanks, MariaSmiles. Sizing would probably be a crapshoot. Your comments about models and shapes changing reminded me that my most recent purchase of sandals was several years ago, so even in Teva and Birkies I may not know what my current size is.
