It's a battery,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pentax D-Li90 Lithium Ion replacement Battery - Retail Packaging (Electronics)
The camera works well with the battery installed.
It doesn't appear to work at all with the battery removed.
So ..... five stars.
But seriously folks ...... the battery's ability to hold a charge and perform under stressful conditions, e.g., cold, will be tested after a year or two rather than a few months.
For a general review: I've tried a third-party battery (CTA) that was well-recommended and priced half of Pentax. Eighteen months later, it was holding only half the charge of my Pentax battery and I was scrambling to get at my spare. Lesson learned.

Update after shooting a good bit in 35-45F weather: holds its charge very well, maintains camera performance. Can't say that for every battery I've had. Good choice so far.

Another update: continues to work well in all weather, still holding charge longer than I expected.

To help educate you, do a Google search on D-Li90 lithium-ion battery and you will find different mAh ratings for what you feel are exactly the same capability; however, the prices vary based on the power provided and the corresponding reliability for number of pictures and/or live view minutes between recharges. This one happens to be OEM but there are many other options that don't provide the same capability. If you had happened to buy a 1550 mAh battery rather than this one, then you may not have been quite so sarcastic if your battery kept dying on you and you kept getting burned on taking pictures, which is what happened to me numerous times until I bought an 1860 mAh battery.
