Not the Product's Fault - We Have Really Smart Rats,
This review is from: Rat Zapper Ultra Infrared (Discontinued by Manufacturer) (Lawn & Patio)
To be fair, my troubles aren't entirely the Rat Zapper's fault. I had the highest of hopes for this product. The office in which I work is infested with rats. It's bad. We've tried everything. Sticky traps - useless. Rat poison - it just makes them crazy and they start making regular daytime appearances. Even more concerning is the fact that it's pretty inhumane. I don't want them to suffer, I just don't need them here. So after reading the positive reviews, we tried the Rat Zapper. We followed the directions to the letter. The first bait we tried was cashews - an oily nut. No dice. After about two weeks using cashews, we tried sandwich bread. Rats love bread. Well, they loved the remaining bread on the top of our refridgerator (previously thought of as a safe zone - I know, we were so naive) but not the bread in the trap. Then we tried a tiny dish of water. The maintenance person thought that if the poison dehydrates them and makes them come out for water, then they'll drink the water in the trap. Nope. So we called an exterminator. He said he'd only known of one person to kill their pests with one of these, and they were mice. Again, in the spirit of fairness, he has an incentive to sway us away from the Rat Zapper. And full disclosure: the rats ate all the bait off of the exterminator's traps without setting any of them off.
So, just know that this trap has worked for a lot of people. But if you're lucky, your rats just may be smarter than the Rat Zapper. Or even you! ;D
