Small Problems that are bearable,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad S415 59385549 14-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Silver Gray) (Personal Computers)
I've had this computer for a little over a month now and so far I am pleased. I have had more problems with the Windows 8 so far than I have with the computer. Overall I do enjoy this computer and the tweaking I have had to do to it. I have bought 2 Lenovo products in the past before (desktop and tablet) and if I need another device in the future I will definitely look at them. I would recommend this to students
Pros: AMD makes it pretty fast
Its pretty and touch screen
Enough RAM for gaming for Steam and League fans out there.
I use my Calculus programs and Stats programs for school work on here and I don't have any problems with freezing or precision
I buy my textbooks on my laptop and it is easy to read and edit with the touch screen. Lovely actually.
Battery life is pretty good. I get about 3 and a half hours while gaming or netflixing and almost 5 if I dim the display turn off the wifi and type and study like I am supposed to. :)
Cons: Windows 8 is annoying!
The outside is metal, so it is cold to hold especially when you are trying to curl up in the winter with Netflix you will probably need a blanket.
Windows 8 is annoying
A lot of the keyboard shortcuts I used to use in Windows 7 do not work on here.
Windows 8 is annoying.
Not as much memory as I hoped and I have to run a lot of programs but I got a passport so its fine. I keep my movies on it.
Its actually about as heavy as my old laptop that was 15.6 inches with an optical drive but this one has no optical drive.
Oh. I must be forgetting something..... Oh yeah. Windows 8 is a piece of crap! A couple days ago installed a touch version of Ubuntu on here because I could not take it anymore and I love it. I don't recommend that for everyone though it's a lot of work.

I have been on the hunt for decent instructions on how to install Ubuntu on this thing. I just bought one, you see, and I'm trying to get it to work. I know you may not see this, but if you do and you have the time, I would be immensely grateful if you could give me a step-by-step on making it work.
I'm no beginner but I'm more of one when it comes to forcing Ubuntu to replace Windows 8 on a UEFI machine. If you reply to this comment then I'll get an email with it!

I was also hoping to see more input regarding any challenges getting Ubuntu on here... Was there any recovery disk creation util in the original install, I've read on other reviews that there weren't any recovery creation options. I usually replace the original HD in laptops with SSD, so may just install fresh there.
What hurdles did you have getting Ubuntu working, esp. with the touch screen? This laptop seems to be a good choice for me (upgrade to 8gb + SSD) and would appreciate more info.
