A Great Lesson on Choices and Listening,
This review is from: Woody Gets Dunked (Kindle Edition)
This is another story of Lizzie the Lizard. Lizzie is a bit older and a bit wiser. She and her cousin, Woody, are outside playing and several times her cousin has to be called back from going into the rain gutters. He gets several warnings because it's a rainy day and anything can happen.
Unfortunately anything does and it starts raining as Woody is in the gutter and he gets washed into a bucket. Sadly, Lizzie and everyone else knows that a lizard can only swim for a short time and she feels sad for Woody.
Luckily, a twist of fate saves Woody and Lizzie learns some valuable lessons. First, she learns that parents really are much wiser and know things that children do now, and second that you can learn from other's mistakes.
For a moment, my 5 year old son had a bit of a panic thinking that Woody was a goner, but everything turned out ok. We used this to talk about how we should listen to parents who probably know a few things more than we do. We also talked about what to do if someone falls in a pool (we have a pool).
I love Rosemary Smith's childrens' books. The stories are well written and accessible to the youngest children. I highly recommend this story to children from ages 3 and up.
