1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't fit D5100 nicely., December 10, 2011
This review is from: eForCity Leather Hand Grip Strap Compatible with Nikon D5000 D5100 D7000 D90 (Electronics)
I bought this product and tried to assemble it to my Nikon d5100, It doesn't fit well, it blocks the bottom of the screen, making it hard to flip the screen out. Even after successfully assembling it to my camera, It's hard to take a picture with it, you can't move your hands that much, can't even reach the buttons using my thumb. The cushion does not really sit well on your hands.

don't buy this.

How does it block the screen if the screen flips out towards the left side? The strap should go on the right

I was thinking of purchasing one, but after reading this review I am wary as I own a Nikon D5100 also.

This grip was not designed for left hand use. Your Nikon was not designed with left-handed use in mind in the first place. If connected properly to the camera it will not block the screen.

I agree with your review 100%. I have a D5100 and it does in fact block the bottom of the screen from flipping out. It fits perfectly if the camera handle and controls were on the left side. LOL!

I also agree. The bottom plate of this assembly has a tab that must keep it situated properly on other models; however, that tab rests on the movable lens of the D5100. I can't get the strap to comfortably attach to my camera.

Yea!, It does not fit my D5100 perfectly. That tab block the swing screen of the D5100. You have to cut down the tab a little bit to allow the swing screen to move out smoothly. Just don't buy it, if you want to use it on D5000 and D5100 without fixing the tab problem,

I don't know if any of you D5x00 owners out there are still looking, but someone posted that another grip works with the swivel screen at Opteka Professional Wrist Grip Strap for Digital & Film SLR Cameras (Black)

Not work on d5100 but easy mod just use pocketknife trim that edge (2 mins). Price is killer so why not.

Yeah, its kinda a pain to use with the flip-out screen on my 5100. Unsure why they put that little 'lip' on it, don't see it's benefit to any camera user. I use it regularly though, and don't use the screen often for more than review anyhow. it's a couple bucks, and really helps with stability - so if you can get past the inconvenience, or you don't use the flip-out screen very often it's a great accessory.
