best "D" cells in existence,
This review is from: 8 pcs of Tenergy D Size 10,000mAh High Capacity High Rate NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (Electronics)
Over three years of near-continuous use with no failures. Don't be put off by the generic name; I've been using various sizes of Tenergy batteries for five years without any going bad.
If there is one shortcoming to these batteries--and I should stress that the problem lies not only with these in particular--is that the batteries' sleeves seem destined to fail long before the conductive paste inside them ceases to hold a useful charge.

Just a comment - while tenergy might seem generic compared to what we see mostly on the shelves in grocery stores, it's a very well known name in engineering and industrial circles. Even their alkaline are among my favorites :)
