This review is from: Seven Ox Seven; Part One: Escondido Bound: A Story of Some Ways in the West (Kindle Edition)
This book was recently offered as a Kindle daily deal, and being in the mood for a good western, I snatched up a copy. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I only made it through about 15% of the book. I tried, but simply could not continue further. Between the author's lengthy religious diatribes and dry history lessons, there seemed to be little story actually taking place. As a Christian myself, I have absolutely no problem with characters being Christians, but I would rather pick up on that fact from their actions within the context of the story, instead of through preachy epistles from the author. The old writing rule `show, don't tell' seems to have been overlooked in this book. Another observation that bogged down the narrative for me was the fact that the writing is much too wordy throughout. I won't cite specifics here, but I found it to be extremely frustrating. Oh well, the search for a good western continues.
