Strong language for a PG rating!,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Summer Wars (DVD)
My kids ages 10 and 12 love movies by hayao Miyazaki, "howl's moving castle" etc. So I thought this might be a good fit for them. However, I am appalled by the use of curse words throughout the movie. Guess I was wrong in choosing this. So I just thought I should let others know incase they make the same mistake!

PG movies allow some language, and there are even PG-13 movies that contain nudity. ( and I don't mean 'partial-nudity' where it just shows someones butt ) In my opinion at ages 10 - 12, they should know not to use the words being used in the movie.

It's rated PG not G. If your ever watched a PG movie in your entire life you should be aware that there might be mild swearing. And your exaggerating a bit when you say "Strong language" because as I recall, there were only about 2 mild curse words in this movie. Don't rate a fantastic movie 2 stars because of your negligence.

lol, trust me when I say Miyazaki-sensei films (all genius repsected) are NOT comparable animes to most...an honest mistake..and besides, I'm sure in the Japanese versions of Miyazaki-sensei's films that aren't "Disney-fied" there is PLENTY of profanity....lol!

Those kids probably hear worse in school on a daily basis. It wasn't anything new to them.

If you feel that way toward films ratings, make sure to read the box. Under PG it states "Action, Violence, some suggestive content, language, mild thematic material and incidental smoking" You might want to look at the Parent's Guide on IMBD that lists the different instances that you might find objectionable. On one more note, one of your children is going to be turning 13 soon, and will be able to see PG-13 movies. If they are not ready for this kind of material, they are in no way ready for PG-13 films.

Parenting fail. There aren't even that many curse words in and and truthfully, I went to a good elementary school (in a good neighborhood and all that) we knew a glossary of curse words by around 8-10 years old. So unless you're homeschooled, it's nothing new to them really.

>I'm giving a good movie a bad rating because of swearing, which I don't like because I am an over-protective mother
