4.0 out of 5 stars classic design, quality materials, and comfortable if you toss the factory insoles., March 20, 2012
This review is from: Wolverine Men's Plainsman 6" Work Boot (Apparel)
I was in the market for a new pair of work boots, previous pair having disintegrated in the heat of a few Arizona summers in the garage. I went to the local Sears and got a pair of Wolverine's that were around $130, on "sale".
After getting them home and wearing them around the house for an hour I decided they were too hot, felt like some cheap hiking boot, and were not worth the price. I set about finding a better boot, one that would breath with out a ton of padding, one that was simple, and so reliable (not thousands of fashionable shapes stitched together and all waiting to go wrong.)

Behold, a real work boot. OK, it's 50 - 70 bucks more than the Sear's sold fashion boot(ique) that was made in China, but it was money well spent.

This boot is well made in the USA. The leather is solid, yet comfortable. It will offer protection, and I bet last years. The sole is Vibram and can be replaced. The workmanship is rustic yet fully functional - by which I mean the leather is top notch, but not polished and so displays natural characteristics.
Also the stitching is made to last, not look pretty. I love the fact the boot is not lined, as this lets the feet breath when it's 120 F out.. the only gripe I have is this:

The supplied insole is horrible (for me). Within a day I felt crippled as it gave way too much arch support. I took it out and put in some flat generic insoles. This then revealed a slight flaw in these boots. The transition from heel to sole of foot has a bit of a bump which you feel w/o the supplied insole. I had to go to the sporting goods store and spend a further $20 on some Super Feet inserts to get things comfy again. Hence 4 stars.

Did these run true to size? I've heard of people ordering a size down...

Thanks!

AZ Mutley says:
They were a bit on the big side, probably a half size more than I'd expected, but it nothing thick socks won't take care of.
